Split Rock Lighthouse first began warding ships from the rocky coast of Lake Superior in 1910, casting a marker light visible 22 miles out into the Lake. Taken out of commercial service in 1969, it remains a landmark on the North Shore, atop a 127-foot tall cliff known locally as Stony Point. The rocky landing in the foreground of this shot was once the drop-off point for all supplies delivered to the lighthouse by boat.
