"Aztec Wall Patterns"

The ancient buildings at Aztec Ruins National Monument stretch hundreds of feet, and present amazingly well-preserved construction details. This section of wall has a beautiful stripe of green sandstone half way up the first floor. This building detail is not replicated elsewhere in the Southwest, and appears to be purely decorative. I found the pattern of rock and wood, set off by the opening, mesmerizing on this sunny afternoon in July.
